This extraordinary old sort probably origins from the French Anjou back in the 9th century. It is likely that it was carried to Touraine in the 15th century.

This sort has various features, which enables it to give diverse wines. It is suitable for sweet dessert wines, as well as for sparkling wines, thanks to its high percentage of acids.

It is mostly grown in France, South Africa, California and South America.
