Muškat bijeli
The sort White Muskat belongs to the large family of Muskat and is the most noble of its sorts. It is easily mistaken with their nearest relative- The Alexandrian Muskat (Muscat d´Alexandrie) because of the shape of the berries, but I don´t know why, since the Brown Muscat has medium- large, round berries and the Alexandrian has big oval ones.
This sort is one of the oldest known. During Ancient Greece and Rome it was know as Anathelicon moschaton (gr.) i apianae (lat.).
Today this sort is grown in many countries and occupies about 45 000 hectares. The most important manufacturers are: Italy (13 500 Ha), France (6 500 Ha), Croatia- mainly Istria (6 000 Ha), Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Romania, Portugal and South-African Republic.
During bad years it develops sourness and the bouquet is too provoking.
In some cases it is mixed with Riesling, Silvanac or white Burgundy wine.
